Katy Schmader posts artist Michael Kenna

John Baldessari is an American artist who got his start in painting and progressed to photo and mixed media. As an artist Baldessari is extremely conceptual, his work is well thought out to look past the general idea of art and deeper into the meaning. He’s dabbled in a little bit of everything, even with performance art early in his career. He’s played around with multiple images that make up one image, shaping an image into a cross, he mixes type with image, and he paints into an image as well. Much of his work consists of the idea of emphasizing the things you don’t normally see by taking things out.

His work is neat to look at because he’s non-discriminate about what he takes out into the image, sometimes it’s the main subjects and sometimes its little pieces that could be distracting to the viewer’s eye. He’s the perfect artist to look at for this semester because of his ability to conceptualize and produce his ides fully. Much of his work seems to be what Libby was trying to get us to do with our work, in looking beyond the first idea and fleshing it out to the fullest.

To say the least you should look over his work once or twice, it’s fun to look at if not for the mystery of trying to figure out what the image or the face of the person or thing that was blotted out, then for the pretty colors he uses.
