J. Bennett Fitts series “ No Lifeguard On Duty” is a collection of empty and unused motel swimming pools. The condition of the pools are the effect of the absence of people. Not only do the pools give the feeling of abandonment, but the structures around them add to this mood of
disuse. Another series of his, “Golf”, captures scenes of a golf course at night. The lighting used in this series is the key that sets the mood of the images. The lighting and placement of it in the frame creates an eerie feeling towards this environment, that is usually seen during the day. In this series he has left pockets of darkness throughout the images, which become a place where someone or something can be lurking.
