Jim Reeds by Fabiola Barragan

Jim Reeds

Reeds is fascinated with weather. He has been photographing the weather for 21 years. Everything started when he was a kid growing up in Illinois. He would climb trees on summer and in winter the storm destroyed all of them.

He went to the University of South California to learn to make movies, but again the weather stole his attention. He first wrote about it for Popular Science. Then, while he was living in Los Angeles, he saw a piece of news footage showing motorists using an overpass to seek shelter from a passing tornado. That inspired him, so he gets close when a storm shows.

When he goies out to shoot a storm, he takes an artistic view to create spectacular images. He takes a very Zen approach to capturing a storm.
