Autumn Dean/ Wayne White

Wayne White

Wayne White is all over the place creatively. He has had a long and varied career and you can always tell that its his work. Aside from his sculpting and painting ability which he is very talented, he is also a hilarious person who is not a fan of the man.
I first was introduced to Wayne through his documentary that was filmed about him. The film shows everything he has worked on and how he works in his studio and all in all shows what his daily life is like. He has a wife and two children and in some ways is just a normal dad except that he is just a bizarre guy.
One of  his early jobs was after he moved to New York he became a cartoonist for several of the local free magazines including The New York Times and The Village Voice. Then after that he moved on to television. His first tv job was as a set and a puppet artist on Pee Wee’s Playhouse which was an eclectic children’s show that used interesting surreal sets and characters.
He then went on to making the tonight tonight music video for The Smashing Pumpkins the rock band. This is one of my favorite videos of all times because of what he created in it.
His sculptural work is often compared to Ed Ruscha and he uses his sculpture skills recently to make sculptures of words. He also makes large painting works that start as thrift store paintings and then paints large 3d words over the old painting.
