Cindy Sherman is a photographer as well as a film director
and is best known for her conceptual portraits. When you go to her website and
click on the “Art” tab you will find a few of her works in photography which in
my eyes are very powerful. Much like Nobuyoshi Araki, the works you will find
of Cindy Sherman on this page are of women and the female body. There are 12
photographs that are displayed and as mentioned each one has something to do
with the female body, either there is an actual woman in them or there is a
figure of a female body in the nude laying in very sexual positions. I find
these works to be very powerful and moving because in a way it is empowering
the woman in each photo and building them up as a strong character. My favorite
out of the 12 is a black and white film still of a women clothed, looking away
from the camera into the distance with a building in the background. This photo
although very simple is very powerful as it shows the woman in a powerful
position that is mysterious as well as moving.
