Robert Mata - Richard Prince

Richard Prince is considered one of the most notorious appropriation artists, he has used a varied amount of opportunities to challenge the ideas of creatorship, ownership, and intellectual boundaries of intellectual property. By re-photographing, copying, scanning, and editing the works of other artists, he has created a style of appropriation and provocation. Receiving his subjects from countercultures and stereotypical clichés, Richard also reveals how readily we accept marketing advertisements, stereotypes and how thoroughly tied these characters are to the context to which they are presented. Detached from their original housing, Prince estranges the familiar, and invites the observer to criticize that which is usually consumed with out a thought and at a glance.
